Due the fast approaching deadline our group decided to work independently on each of our projects so I decided to keep my visuals to highly edited footage from Beatles events and old USSR footage stringing together some visuals from that in a quick way effiecient edit that woul hopefully be to a high qualtiy for the music students event. ![]() Going through the lyrics I planned out what footage I would need for the visuals most of which would be retrieve from YouTube and edited together into a video collage type visual. For the very beginning due to the song starting out as the 'singer' is getting off a plane in Moscow I would go find some footage of the Beatles arriving at airports for their gigs and overlaying over the top of the footage some old USSR maps from some old propaganda films and also gathering footage of planes arriving. For the 'been away so long' part of the song I decided to go look for some shots of the USSR that show it off in a good light maybe of the Kremlin with fire works or bright imagery of sunny days in Russia due to the song being about how the USSR wasn't too different from other countries despite the stereotypes at the time suggesting otherwise as a cold desolate militant society. For the chorus I had the idea of animating the USSR flag to be peeling away and revealing the USA flag underneath this is just an image to suggest the tensions between the two countries at the time and also about how Paul McCartney's view of the song being about a Russian spy who has forgotten about his culture due to being in USA for so long. The Ukraine Girls segment of the song sounds very much like a beach boys song so I thought the visuals could homage this by introducing some old surfing footage as the beach boy's most iconic song is 'Surifn' USA'. The original idea for 'Georgia's always on my mind' was to have an animation of a woman which would transition to the flag of Georgia as a reference to it being a country and a woman but that didn't pan out because it would have been too difficult to do in the amount of time I had to edit the piece. The last part of the song I just decided I would find footage of whatever the lyrics would be talking about as it was Russian imagery, so I'd find vintage footage of people playing balalaikas nd russian skiers going down a mountain and also some old Russian farms as the final section of the song seems to be just a celebration of everything Russian.
